Evaluation activity 7

Looking back at our preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel have learnt from the progression from it to full product.

Here is our preliminary task.

Frame 1 comparison

This foot shot is from our preliminary task and is a high angled shot showing the intensity of the walk. By adding intensity it allows the viewers to feel the the dramatic atmosphere. The walk was slow as it needed to put the hesitation of the character across.
On the other hand this foot shot is at a different angle because the character of the film was shown better through the close up of her shoes. By showing the audience that she wears socks and sandals gives the viewers an insight on the character as well as showing a comedic view.

Frame 2 comparison

This is an over the shoulder shot in our preliminary task. It gives the viewers an insight on the background of the character's life without giving away too much of the story. In this shot the character is shown to be entering the counselling office which gives the audience the idea that she may have issues within her life. It allows the audience to question what is going to happen and therefore intrigues them to watch the rest of the film.

This is an over the shoulder shot in our final opening sequence. It shows the character locked within a locker which gives the idea that she is being bullied. This allows the audience to watch it further they want to know how she escapes the situation. The lighting is shown as dark as it creates an upset mood for the character as she is struggling.

This is a video of us, Jessica and Megan, discussing what we learnt from the preliminary task.

Evaluation activity 5 (part 2

This is our opening sequence annotated showing our unique selling point, similarities to other films and our views on our music.

Our opening sequence is very similar to the film 'Mean Girls' and in some ways similar to 'St Trinians'.  This is shown with in the annotations.

Interviews for activity 5 (part 1)

How did you attract/address your audience?

Here is a video of Megan interviewing 16/17 year olds. We interviewed this age group as it was our target audience for our opening sequence. From the interviews we learnt that our target audience would suit our film well as they enjoy the 'Inbetweeners' as it is similar to our opening sequence.

We also interviewed our teacher, Mr N Go.  From this interview we learnt that our film would not be suited to Mr Go's age group.  We can tell this because of his comments about the 'Inbetweeners'.   He said that he didn't understand all of the jokes as they are related more to teenagers and that he felt that the film wasn't aimed for him.

Evaluation Activity 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is Lucy Johnson she is 15 going on sixteen soon and is currently in yr 11 living in West London. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, shopping and all the other typical things that a teenager enjoys doing. She is very family orientated and enjoys spending time with her younger sibling and her younger cousins. She enjoys watching teen comedies as when she is with her family or even friends she takes her younger siblings and cousins to the cinemas to watch teen comedies such as, when the Inbetweeners movie came out. She currently has a boyfriend called Connor who enjoys the same things as her. They spend most nights together watching there favourite TV programmes or watching a DVD.

Her favourite television programmes includes: 90210 on E4 which she can relate to as they are a group of young people currently in education with boyfriends/girlfriends. She also enjoys watching the  Inbetweeners also on E4 which is a comedy about a group of young teens who are outcasts which Lucy finds very funny as she says: ' I find this show absolutely hilarious as the fact that it is based on a group of outsiders emphasises the comedy factor.' As well as the BBC1 soap EastEnders. She enjoys various types of music, ranging from pop music to rock music. Lucy loves listening to music a lot, so much that most of the time she is either listening to her iPod or blasting  out the radio as it  playing her favourite song, her favourite stations include: Capital, Choice FM and sometimes XFM.

Lucy tells us: " I really like teen comedies especially with a range of different social groups like the popular group as I find that I can relate to this as it is set in a school and some of the things the characters go through I mostly go through on a daily basis at school. Some of the jokes can be quite cheesy sometimes but nevertheless I still enjoy it. I love films that make you laugh but not in a typical way like telling a joke but a different way like a silly gesture that you don't see coming." Her favourite films include: She's the Man, Easy A and Angus, thongs and perfect snogging.  She mostly enjoys watching them at the cinema as she gets that ' big screen experience' but she also likes to buy the DVD and watch it at home usually with her friends or family members.

I think our opening sequence would appeal to teens like Lucy because it is a teen comedy which teens can also relate to as their includes different social groups, and is set in a school. Our film is one that she can watch with her friends, younger family members or even her boyfriend as he can also relate to it in the same way that she does. It is for those teens who enjoy having a laugh at the typical kind of humour portrayed in most comedies. I think that this is definitely a film that Lucy can go to watch in the cinema to get the 'big screen experience' with her friends.

Evaluation, activity 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Firstly, what is a distributor?
A distributor is in charge of releasing the film to the public. It has to control the function of budgeting, scripting and also indicating members of staff to particular areas in order to produce a film.

As a group we discussed and referred to the 3 companies that we had previously explored in class, these were Warp X, Warner bros and Working title.

-Warp X use low budget production methods to try and achieve high value films that will attract a range of people. Some of their first productions were as follows: 'a complete history o my sexual failures', 'Donkey punch' and so on. But records show that they have not been as successful as Warner Bros and Working title.
-Warner Bros is seen to be as a more Hollywood type of production company because of their materials and their values. Clearly just by mentioning Hollywood it is vivid that Warner Bros interact with diverse audiences also it can be argued that because Warner Bros is an american producer it has more value than the other two British companies.
-Working Title are another British company but who on the other hand of Warp X use well known actors to perhaps create a bigger chance of bigger numbers of individuals watching their films. For example; Rowan Atkinson who stars in 'Johnny English' is known to be very funny with out even using dialogue, it is through his gestures that the audience understand his character.

Having summarised the 3 production companies we would relate our opening sequence to working title because we are almost certain that our opening sequence would interest our target audience which are teenagers and young adults. The location and story line of our project demonstrates the day-to-day routine that the majority of our target audience go through and therefore can relate to and enjoy watching it on the big screen. We would not state that Warner bros could be a potential distributor for our film because of the standards they work at and the high budgets they invest from. Nevertheless we would not result to Warp X because of their low quality and low budget materials it would not allow us to produce a good enough project that our target audience would spend money on to watch.

Having spoken about budgets it is evident that certain things like props and costumes would have to come from our personal funds due to a certain budget being spent on things for editing or that have to do with the quality of our project. The budget could be funded by either a government grant or other things like sponsorship, donations, fund raising events and other similar methods of obtaining money.

Evaluation Activity 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

We decided to use Megan to play the stereotypical character of a fat greasy slob,  this character is  generally in comedies; appearance wise Megan does not look like a greasy slob as she is not fat but fits other factors of being a fat greasy slob such as, being messy/scruffy with holes in her socks. We were influenced to have a range of different characters from looking at a variety of films like 'Mean girls'.
This character is not specifically given a name but her group that she is in is given the title of 'girls who eat their feelings' who fits this stereotype but like Megan she is a girl which goes against the conventional stereotype of a fat greasy slob. Though, in our film Megan portrays this character very well. They are both  in school, with their only care is for food and nothing else, both love stuffing their faces with junk. However, there are some differences such as, their costumes as Megan is in very casual clothes (which she wears everyday to school) and their body posture as Megan seems like she doesn't care and just relaxes with her food in her hand while the picture from 'Mean girls' shows her sitting in the canteen eager to eat when bringing food to her mouth. Although, there facial expressions can be related as Megan is concentrating on her food and ignoring everything else as if it is only her and her food in the room and the character from 'Mean girls' looks like shes concentrating on her food and is very eager to get it, again it looks like its only her and her food in the room at that time.
Whereas, the shot of Megan and the character from ' Mean girls' also allows the different characters to be portrayed in a certain way, for example, the character form ' Mean girls' looks like she seems to care what other people think and does have friends but friends who are losers as the shot allows there to be other people in it looking like shes known in school for the fat greasy slob she is and is therefore, secluded. Overall, both characters are portrayed similarly, allowing the audience to see where we got our influences form.

As well as in our opening sequence representing the stereotypical 'greasy slob' it also represents the social group "the geeks".

The Geek in our film was played by Ana and was the main character.  Her costume was socks and sandals, a  dress with a blue jumper and trousers underneath, big glasses and her hair tied up in bunches.  These all typical of the stereotyped geek. We got the inspiration for the geek from The 'Inbetweeners' character, Will McKenzie.

This is a picture of 'the geek' from 'The Inbetweeners'. He is wearing glasses, similar to our main character and he is smartly dressed, also similar to our character. Just by looking at this image one can tell the similarities between this character and the main character in our opening sequence.

Here is a picture of our main character, the geek, from our opening sequence.      She is similarly dressed to the person in the above picture and both people  represent a stereotypical social group, the geeks.

Overall, we think that we represent the social group well by the costume worn and also by the way Ana speaks throughout her voice over.

Our opening sequence also represents the stereotypical 'dumb blonde' or as we called the person in our film 'the dipsy blonde'. We showed her as someone with blonde hair, highly interested in cheer leading and covering herself in make up.  We also showed her to be quite bossy.

This is a shot from the film 'St Trinians' showing 'the posh totie' putting on her makeup.  She is very similar to our character 'The dipsy blonde' as she is highly interested in make up.  The shot is also filmed in a mirror which is how we shot our character putting on her make up.

This is 'The dipsy blonde' from our opening sequence, we've shown her similarly to the character in the above picture.

Evaluation activity 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Typically, in some ways our film follows the conventional young teen comedy; we used the Inbetweeners as a template and referred to the stereotypical characters such as, the main character which is the geek. Although, in a way our film does challenge many forms of the convention of real media for our characters such as, the 'greasy slob' as usually a man or a boy play this role rather than a women or girl. Initially, we thought of how to include something unique and different about our comedy that would distinguish our film from other comedy films in the first two minutes of our opening sequence, so we decided to focus on this specifically. We decide to make our production logo on photo shop, which was similar to other groups from our school however, the fact that our production logo is a record disk with a DJ-ing sound playing in the background gave our film some uniqueness.
Having looked at other films gave us inspiration to try these things in our film such as, four different personalities meet but we decided to tweak things in a certain way as we didn't want to copy it. For example, we looked at the Inbetweeners fro inspiration on our characters and target group. As the Inbetweeners is aimed at teens and involves a group of geeks but a variety of characters are actually involved in the programme such as, bullies. A convention of a comedy is generally to have a geek in it such as, Nypolean Dynamite. We have used this convention to reflect our genre of comedy.
                                                                                                                Frame 1:

This first shot allows us to give an establishing shot of the courtyard/school as this gives more of a variety of shots.Additionally, this adds more to the story as from the geek running in the courtyard the next shot is then with the geek running into the corridor. This is the fourth shot that appears on the screen, except for the production logo, the geek banging on the locker and then geek coming out of the locker.

                             Frame 2:

This is the second shot where the geek is locked in the locker by the bullies. On this shot we can also see one of the main characters names which is in turquoise to portray the genre of our film which is 'comedy'. This type of font including the colour is used throughout the beginning of our production to give the audience the feel of our movie even if they do not see the rest of the film they know that it is comedy; this is used until the main character actually enters the class room.
                               Frame 3
This close up also freeze frame of the geeks foot conveys the genre of our film which is comedy as well as creating a humorous atmosphere as the geeks is wearing white socks and sandals. The fact that the title of our opening sequence which is '4faces' as cited in the print screen of the shot, appears on the geeks foot adds to the funny atmosphere.

                               Frame 4:

This shot fades into another shot of the popular girl applying make up and then conducting cheer practice with her cheer group which she is the captain of, these shots support the voice over. The purpose of this shot is to indicate the elements that defines the characters personality and so on for the purpose of the audiences understanding.  It also confirms to the audience who one of the four main characters are  which is important so that the audience recognise the relevance of this to the rest of the film.

                                Frame 5:

This shot is relevant to the previous frames of the popular girl and the voice over, it develops the fact that this is an opening sequence which shows that these continuous frames are a form of introduction to various aspects for instance: characters, location and more. This also gives emphasis on 1 of the four faces.

                              Frame 6:
Here we see the boy that according to the voice over is the boy that everyone is after,  nodding at the geek. This close up reveals to the audience another one of the main characters.  Perhaps it possibly interacts with the audience in terms of getting to know the individual characters and their image.

                               Frame 7:
This particular frame supports the previous frame by adding more to this character as well as the story of this character. Similarly, this scene portrays how this character is treated in school. This sot allows the audience to see the mise en scene which is the lockeroom and helps in portraying this characters popularity in school.

                               Frame 8:
Here we introduce a new character but still one of the main characters. Through the costume we refer to the stereotypical greasy slob that is usually in most all comedies. However the fact that it is a girl does not necessarily comply with the stereotypical greasy slob as they role is usually played by a male rather than a female.

                                                                                               Frame 9
This is the second to last shot of our opening sequence it is filmed as a close up to indicate that the geek is weird also showing how different she is from the other 3 main characters that she is put into a group with.  This also supports the voice over as the fact that she is in a lab all alone at lunch time shows her struggle of how she going to cope of being put into this group of diversity.

Plan for evaluation

As a group we have completed this planning task so that we are clear of how to answer the set questions when we actually begin our evaluation. We aware that we need to use digital technology in order to achieve a high grade and so we will do our best to portray our answers through using both text and things like prezi.

Progress

Today, we all gathered at lunch to add the titles and figure out what part of the voiceover that we lost so that the main character could record this again for our opening sequence before the deadline tomorrow. Tomorrow we plan to work on any last minute editing that we need to do before five o'clock

Titles

Today we started working on the titles, using Live Type, for our opening sequence.  We decided on a cartoon style as it fits with our comedy genre for our opening.  We have now finished these as Megan and I stayed after school today to complete these. Once our film has been finished we will be putting them in the correct places and then our opening sequence will be complete.

Wednesday 7th March

On Wednesday as we had a double media lesson in the morning, we decided to focus on importing our footage from the camera onto the computer in imovie and watch the footage through trying to see what else we could add to make our film more appealing to our audience. We decide on the geek, the main character, to start in the opening sequence by banging on the door to a locker for the bullies to let her out as she is late for her lesson. The geek would then run through the courtyard to where we would edit it to the geek running through the corridor to the classroom as she is late. Though, we focused on importing our footage from the camera and filming this scene, prior to this at the beginning of the lesson we were able to do a little bit of editing, even though, it was not a lot and had to be cut short due to us filming.

Plans for the final week

This is a prezi of our plans for the final week before our opening sequence needs to be finished. I think we have a lot to do but will have enough time to complete it successfully as long as we work out side of lesson times, which we have been doing.

5th March-filming

Today, we filmed the main character, the geek, running into the classroom and the teacher telling the geek what group that she is in to do her media project. We also re-filmed the geek running into the classroom from the corridor as we used different costume to film the running into the classroom scene we had to re-film this so the geek would be wearing the same thing rather than different clothes in different scenes.

Wednesday, 29 February 2012

Today (29th February)

Today we are starting the voice over.  We are also going to be filming the scene where the geek is in the science lab doing experiments.

Friday, 24 February 2012

possible music

This is the possible choice of music we want to use. This music would be used when the geek is running to her classroom. We would only use the beginning part of the song as it has a good beat and tune for the running. The music would start from the production logo and finnish when the geek storms into the room and the acting begins.

Update on filming

Unfortunately, this week we have been unable to stick to our plans for filming on Wednesday and Thursday due to members of the group having a lot of other work to do and were unable to balance it all. We have decided to try and do as much as possible tomorrow. I think we will be unable to finish it all tomorrow but hopefully will be able to early next week and then will be ready to start editing.

Agreement 22-2-2012

We have agreed that as we want to finish filming and start on editing by the end of this week as we have a lot to do, we will be staying after school to re-film a particular scene due to the quality. As well as the fact that we will be able to film with a dance class as there will be lots more people we can use in this scene which will improve the way it looks.

Video discussion of plans for today, 22nd February

This is a video of us discussing what we are planning to film today.

Open discussion about filming on 9th February

We declare this is an open discussion about what went well and what didn't during filming on 9th February.  We used sound cloud to make this recording.

This weeks plans

This is our last week of filming so we are planning to film hopefully every day this week, meaning we will be staying after school and working through our lunches.  We already have the majority of our opening sequence filmed we just need to film a couple of scenes and then we will be ready to start editing it all together.

Opinion on the up coming deadline

Seeing as our group was unable to film during the half term due to members going away and then others working for most of the days when we get back to school we will have to work very hard before the deadline date.
From my point of view it will be a challenge as we will have to work in nearly all of our frees and break times but then i know that we are committed and that we will not waste any time and make sure everything is finished which is the most important thing.
Additionally, all four members of our group have got the idea of what needs to be done to record accurately for example filming from different angles to choose which footage best suits the scene and so on.

Sound cloud

On the last day before the holidays began which was also the last day of filming until after the holidays for our group. We decided that we wanted to use Sound cloud to record ourselves saying what went well, what didn't go well and what we would improve when we filmed our last scene before the holiday began. Due to the fact that members of our group are not available for filming consequently, we cannot record using Sound cloud until after the holidays as different members of our group are going to say different things about filming from their personal perspective. We could not record this before the holidays a we had many things to do as we are not able to do anything in the half term so wanted to get as much as we could done in the time we have for filming. As a result, we used our time to do other necessities such as, filming or updating our blog on things we did daily.

Filming in the half-term

As a group we all have different plans for the half term as a result of this we are not able to film during this holiday. As some of us our away while others are not we cannot film as different members are allocated different parts and as we are not together it is not possible to film as well as the fact that we are not able to get the filming equipment. However, we can still update our blog with our plans, progress etc. and plan how we are going to film after the half term so that things will run more smoothly as we do not have that much time to film once we get back to school.

Re-filming (9th February)

Today, we went to McDonald's again to film the 'greasy slob' coming out of McDonald's with her hands full of bags of food. We filmed this again due to the tripod being wonky and this messed up our alignment and would therefore, have effected our final grade so we had to change this. As we had to film from different angles to see where we could get the right shot from, I had to stand on a small road to get a good shot of the 'greasy slob' coming out but cars needed to go past quite a lot as it distracted us which took up a lot of time making our trip longer.

Re-filming (8th February)

Yesterday, we went to go and re-film the McDonald's sign due to the fact that the first time we filmed it the tripod was wonky which effected the alignment of our shot. We filmed this about 3 or 4 times just to be safe in case some of the shots were not so good so this was a back up for us.As McDonald's is a popular place many people were going past the camera interrupting, disturbing our concentration as well as distracting us our shots consequently, making filming longer though in the end it was worth it.

Filming (9th February)

Today, we filmed another scene from our opening sequence with the part including the 'don'. We decided to upload a recording of ourselves talking about how filming went for us today including what went well, what didn't go well and what we would improve. We are going to use Sound cloud to do this which will be uploaded soon.

Cheerleading 1st footage

Having filmed the cheerleading scene for the first time we recognised that there was copy right music playing in the background therefore we will have to re film this with freshly composed music that will suit the scene.

Poor shots!

Due to the lack of support from the other members of the group who were not behind the cameras the following footage was not accurate in terms of the alignment. Also the tripod was not positioned well so this was another reason why the shot was not done properly. We will have to re film this particular shot and take it numerous times to make sure it is correct.

Behind the Scenes footage

Here is some footage of our experience behind the scenes:

Shot Experimentation

During shot experimentation,  from Jessica's point of view it was hard to film Ana running using the tripod because she was unable to move the tripod quick enough without it jolting and looking stiff. We tried using handheld to experiment better, we discovered that it is easier yo use handheld as it didn't jolt and if we spend the correct amount of time filming we can do this correctly. From Dolapo's point of view filming was also quite hard as i did a close up of Ana's eyes to get a point of view shot, this was hard as we had heard that to do a pan shot it is easier to use a rubber band to move the camera around so i tried this but it did not help as it just made the camera jerk.

Behind the scenes

While filming the first scene of our film, we had some problems, for example, trying to set up the tripod or laughing when we were trying to film something. We decided to film ourselves behind the scenes so you will also be able to see the struggles that we had as well as how we planned our filming and how long it took to film because of certain things like laughing. The video for behind the scenes will shortly be put up.

Filming

Yesterday, we filmed the first scene of our opening sequence where some of the shots were successful while two of our shots were tilted due to the tripod not being positioned correctly wich was one of the problems that we had during film-making. Consequently, now we need to allocate some time to re-film this scene as this could affect our final grade if we do not.

Monday, 6 February 2012

First day of filming

Today we did our first filming of our opening for our film. We travelled to McDonalds by bus during our frees and media lesson and filmed the scene where the 'Greasy Slob' walks out of McDonalds with many bags and eats a burger. This was taken by many different shots including:
  • Master shots
  • Close ups
  • Mid shots
Each shot we took around 2 or 3 times as some had mistakes or we wanted to improve the shots. All together the scene was completed just under 2 hours and turned out very well.

Throughout the week we will be shooting more scenes for our film and showing the behind the scenes in short videos that we will add to the blog. By the end of the week we will have completed many scenes and shots for our film and we would be ready to edit.

Friday, 3 February 2012

Today's lesson (3rd February)

In today's lesson we sorted out our final draft of our filming schedule and we are starting filming on Monday. The final draft of our filming schedule is very important as it will help us keep on task for all the filming we have to do.

We also scanned in our screen play, which can be found on our blog.  This is also important as the actors will need this to guide them for what they need to do for our opening sequence.

Finally, we finished doing our shot experimentations and the different shots we have tried will be put onto the blog soon.

Saul Bass-help in discussion on titles

Saul Bass was the greatest font designer. As a group we discussed tittle choice and came to a conclusion that the title of our film should be '4 faces' but in discussing the title that our film should be we looked at videos from soul bass to get some inspiration.
We watched a documentary on Saul Bass which is based on his various title use in different films. There were a number of elements to Basses documentary which inspired us in the decision-making of our film title:

  • In the documentary Saul Bass said that a film title should ' Set the stage symbolically for what was about to come.' In discussing our film title we took into consideration what title could be comedic, as our film is a comedy, or portray a kind of humour in a way without giving anything away too much but will set the stage for our film, symbolically.
  • Another thing that Saul Bass said in his documentary is that a title of a film should also be a 'significant contribution to the storytelling process'. We took this into consideration when picking the title of our film as we discussed our title being clear cut and straightforward and by this its significance to the film would be revealed; as well as the fact it will add to the storytelling process.

Overall. Saul Bass inspired a great deal of our thinking in terms of the title of our film. As we decided on the title of our film which will be '4faces' we took several elements from Basses documentary. For example, Bass said that a title of a film should be significant and add to the storytelling process. Our title is significant to our film as there are 4 people brought together with very different personalities from different social groups to form another social group which will be difficult, thus making the part of our title  'faces' as it represents different people/personalities. This will also add to the storytelling process as that is the main plot of the opening sequence put into two words for the audience.

Shot experimentation thoughts

As a group we discussed that it would be a good idea to experiment some shots with the camera so when it came to us actually filming things would run much smoother as we had practised it before. We experimented with a pan shot; this would be used when the geek (main character) enters the classroom and looks around the class to see the different characters various reactions. This went well as we practised filming a pan shot several times until we got the hang of it and were confident in doing it when we have to film our opening sequence.
The next shot that we experimented with was a tilt; when the main character, the geek, runs through the corridor at the beginning of the opening sequence as she is late for her lesson, there is a tilt at the beginning of the geeks feet as she runs towards the camera then the camera tilts up to the geeks back as she runs past the camera.
Lastly, we then experimented with a close-up of the geeks eyes; when the geek storms into the classroom when she is late there will be a close up of the geeks eyes which will then go into a pan shot which shows what the geek sees from her point of view, this is also point of view shot.

Screen Play thoughts

Prior to making our screen play we discussed each of the characters roles and what the geek, who is the main character, would say ( in the voice over) about getting into a group with these individual characters. We finalised our ideas for the script for our opening sequence and put it into our screenplay.

Screen Play

Some of the cast members

Picture number one is the character known as the 'greasy slob', this role is being played by Megan Wilbourn. This is a minor character compared to the 'geek' role but is still significant to the opening sequence as it introduces one of the four "different" personalities.

Below we have Nargis which will be playing the role of a teacher. The role of the teacher is a very minor character as she only says two lines but is needed as she sets the atmosphere of the opening sequence. To the right of Nargis we have Ana who is acting out the role of the geek, who is the main character, it is up to our group to emphasis the diffrentiation of the four personalities.

Today's lesson (1st February)

In today's lesson we completed out final draft of our story board, making it into an animation using iMovie and it has been posted onto the blog.

We also started to get on with shot experimentation and filmed two different shots in different ways to see which is going to work best in our film. These will be posted on our blog soon.

Animated storyboard

This is our final version of our storyboard print screened individually to be made into a video using imovie.

Soundtrack thoughts

Due to copyright we won't be able to use songs in our opening sequence.  We had originally planned to use a song but then realised we couldn't so we are hoping to create our own soundtrack.  It is likely that we will create some of the soundtrack as we have people in our group that play instruments so this means it will be easier to compose some of our soundtrack.

The type of music we'd like to create is going to be quite upbeat and sound quite cheesy.

This is an example of the sort of song we are wanting to make.  We originally wanted to use this, but due to copyright we are unable to. Instead of creating a whole new track we may edit to make it a bit easier.

We do not intend to have a lot of music in our opening sequence, mainly just for the the very beginning when the geek enters the class room.

Today's lesson (30th January)

During the lesson today, as a group, we discussed what days we were able to start filming where everyone was free for at least a couple of hours.  At first we had problems with some of us not able to make a certain day, but we over came this and our draft of the days we will be filming is now complete and will be put up on the blog soon.

We also started to take the casting shots. We have taken them against a white background, so it is simple. These will be put on the blog at a later date.

Cast Planning

From the beginning we identified the characters that were going to be our priority due to the significance they had in our opening sequence. We also have a very vivid idea of who we knew that would be appropriate to illustrate these characters. We were aware that we had to select inidviduals who were reliable due to the numerous times we will have to film and edit specific parts of this project, we could not choose someone who was going to bring inconvinience to the cast as it would have an impact on the general project this could reflect on our grade.

As a result all of our cast members are from our school and so makes things easier in terms of filiming in school hours when it is best for everyone but most importantly as it is where the location for our opening sequence is.

Pictures and labels will be updated onto the blog to convey what individual plays what and why as a group we thought they were relevant and so on.

Title Research

From the beginning of this project we have discussed the fact that we would like the title of our film to be unique but also a title that may make our characters laugh, as we plan to do a comedy, or engage our characters to watch the opening sequence. For the title of our film we had many ideas that bounced of each other making new ideas :
  • Theodopolus- as the main character of our film is going to be the geek we thought that we could name our film after the main character, but in the end we swayed away from using this title as we want people, when they see the title of our film, to read it with ease or interest not to struggle in trying to pronounce the name of our film.
  • School days- We then thought about giving out opening sequence this title as it is set in school and these are the everyday problems that may occur in school. We also wanted to use this title as in a way it givse a way what the film is going to be about as well as the genre of the film. The title is also ironic as it is as if the main character, the geek, is saying the phrase school days as if its going to be a normal day for the geek but she doesn't know what's in store for her on this special school day. We then again swayed away form this title as it seems to simplistic.

We then finally decided on making the title of our film '4 faces'. We wanted the main character, the geek, to be included in the title of our film in some way but we weren't to sure how.We chose this title because its unique and engages you two watch the film after you have read the title; it has 4 in the title as they are four characters that we are going to focus on in our opening sequences, including the main character the geek, we then chose 'faces' to accompany the 4 because we are going to be concentrating on their different faces (personalities) and how then eventually come together to be friends.

Progress and improvements

Progress:
We have looked at various opening sequences to help us in making our opening sequence. Prior to starting this project we have already allocated individual roles to appropriate individuals that will be part of our cast. Additionally, we have also looked at locations at where we could film different scenes in our opening sequence.

Improvements:
Although we have focused on numerous details it is clear that there are things that we need to work on in order to improve. Some of these things are as follows: we know that we need t o include more posts on our blogs illustrating our different thoughts that are relevant to different topics as well as the fact that our blog doesn't need to be so 'tidy' but we can add our thoughts on certain things when it is appropriate e.g. adding our thoughts on the cast

Storyboards

The shots on our storyboards are ordered in numbers...

During shot 1 and shot 2 there is going  to be a voice over and between these shots there are going to be various different angled shots such as: of the geek dropping her books and glasses.

The rest of the shots will commence after the main character (the geek) enters the room.

Here we want to use zoomed in shots of he characters and then have flashbacks of what happened before for example in picture 6a the 'junky' girl is walking out of Mcdonalds with several bags of food.

Towards the ending of our opening sequence their is a master shot (picture 9) showing what individuals are doing. We have then ended with a close up of the main character looking confused.
